ECONOMICS (MICRO & MACRO)                     -ECO
Aim:
To test candidate’s understanding of the economic environment in which government and public organization operate and their knowledge of economic principle and application
Micro
(i)     Introduction to basis Issues - scope of economics, definitions, scarcity and choice, opportunity cost .The four economic resources, Land, Labour Capital and Entrepreneur, The Law of Diminishing Returns.
(ii)     Demand and Supply Analysis – Definition ,types of demand, The law of demand schedules, changes in demand, causes and effects of changes in demand. Definition of supply, type of supply, causes and effects of change in supply.
(iii)     Concept of Elasticity, measurement, its influence on demand, supply and income.
(iv)     The Concept of Margin – Marginal Utility Diminishing, Marginal Utility, Law of Diminishing Marginal Utility and the Applications of Indifference Curve Theory.
(v)      Firm /Industry and Market structure – Meaning of Perfect Competition, Monopoly and Oligopoly. Demand and Supply under the different marker structure. Price discrimination, Advantages and disadvantages of perfect and imperfect competition.
Macro
(i)      National Income-Government Sector and National Income Accounting, calculation of National Income(GNP,GDP),measurement ,factors, problems of measurement and usefulness of National Income.
(ii)     Monetary Economics-Money and its functions, Type and Characteristics Demand for money and money supply. Monetary policy, objectives, instruments and problems.
(iii)     Inflation-Types, effects and measurement
(iv)    Employment- Causes of unemployment, types, income and employment analysis .Full employment and economic policy, problem of full employment etc
(vi)    Money and Banking-Financial Intermediation, concept and meaning. Commercial merchant and development banks .Central Bank. Introduction to money and capital markets.
(vi)   International Economic – International trade, concept, theory of comparative cost and advantage, application to policy decision, trade restrictions and policies, foreign exchange rate Balance of. Payment, Balance of Trade, Terms of Trade, International Financial Institutions.
(vii)    Structure of Nigeria Economy - Agricultural Sector ,Rile of Agriculture, Manufacturing/ Industrial Sector.

 IV.      Accounts Preparation - Profit and Loss Accounts, Trial Balance and Balance Sheets, Income and Expenditure Accounts.
     V.      Preparation of Accounts from Incomplete Records.
 VI.      Depreciation – Various methods Stock Valuation (FIFO, LIFO etc.
VII.      Comparism of Various Accounts – Trading Accounts, Manufacturing Accounts, Partnership Accounts, Club Accounts, Government Accounts etc.
